Jan 17, 2018 I am attempting to upgrade from macOS 10.12.6 to 10.13 on a Mac Pro 5,1. I am receiving Unable to Unmount Volume for Repair errors. I have attempted to install this from a USB installer, running the DMG file from the /Applications folder, as well as an alternate disk. All attempts went to the Macintosh HD volume.

So when I boot into the partition that the OS X installer made to reinstall OS X (to repair AppleHDA and other crap) and try to install OS X, it says 'Unable to unmount volume for repair'. I go to disk utility to run first aid, it gives me the same error. However when I boot into OS X (not the installer) it can run first aid just fine. Any ideas? My last back-up in Time Capsule was 8 April 2015. Since then I installed an iTunes update (10 April) and and OS X Yosemite update (17 April). Time Capsule is either very slow in 'preparing' or aborts just before finishing its major back-up. I have used the verification of Disk Utility which was extremely slow and took some 24 hours and then told me to 'repair' the Time Capsule disk. Unfortunately, the 'repair' option aborts quite quickly telling that it was 'unable to unmount the volume for repair'.
